RecordPoint, an Australian AI and data governance scaleup trusted by regulated enterprises globally, has launched RexCommand, a free tool designed to help businesses tackle one of the fastest-growing risks in tech: shadow AI.

With AI adoption soaring, new data from Anagram shows 78% of employees are already using AI tools at work—often without approval.

RecordPoint CEO and cofounder Anthony Woodward said many free – and even paid – versions of these tools are designed to capture all input data for training purposes. Claude’s new terms of service let it use your inputs for training — even on the paid model.

“Australian business leaders and investors are eager to leverage AI wherever possible, and we’ve already seen some remarkable applications across the ecosystem,” he said.

“Yet as an industry, we’re overlooking a critical issue. In the US, where discourse on this technology is more advanced, the conversation has shifted towards data security, shadow AI usage, and the long-term implications. Staff using certain AI models, even unintentionally, could be placing your business at serious long-term risk. It’s a risk investors should be attuned to as well.”

Woodward said RexCommand is their attempt to close that gap.

It’s free for all organisations. Our aim is to help businesses address AI governance early, so we can avoid more serious issues across the ecosystem down the track.”

“At a minimum, this launch is sparking conversation about shadow AI within the tech community. It’s a topic that simply isn’t being discussed enough in the Australian market and it’s a pivotal issue if this technology is truly set to underpin the next generation of innovation.”

RexCommand offers a centralised, no-cost platform that enables startups to:

● Discover unauthorised AI tools in use across teams

● Instantly create and apply enforceable AI policies

● Maintain visibility and oversight of data within the organisation

The platform forms part of RecordPoint’s broader AI Governance Suite, which supports data oversight for leading banks, insurers, and government agencies across both the US and Australia.

RecordPoint’s platform currently processes more than eight million data transactions per day—more than the NASDAQ. Its key clients include major banks Westpac, NAB, Macquarie, and regulators such as APRA, ASIC, and the City of New York.
