19 year old entrepreneur Brandon Cowan has been praised in Media over the last 2 years for his successful apps and philanthropic work in creating apps for organisations and communities that help them be more effective in reaching their goals and mission. Recently he has been reaching out to the Red Cross Blood Service to create an app for them in order to help increase repeat blood donation, after reaching out a number of times, he has decided to write an open letter in order to get the attention of the “right” person he needs to talk to within this part of the organisation. In general around 80% of sales people I have met, are pretty average, because they really don’t understand the science around sales and the difference between that and account management. I admit it, I was wrong. When I first imagined building Airtasker, I thought that from the start, marketing would be the most significant factor in building a successful marketplace for services. After a few months of pushing our developers to build lots of stuff to support online marketing campaigns, Jono (Airtasker COO and co-founder) and I started looking at the data and realized that whilst we had a pretty good net promoter score, we were spending some of our money on acquiring customers who weren’t going to be die-hard advocates of our service.
The website taps into Facebook users already existing social networks to match them with extended friends networks. Everyday, Meeeup sends the user a match chosen from their social graph, and the user has 24 hours to decide whether to “Meeeup” or “Meeeno” that match. If the user selects Meeeno, that match will never occur again. But if there’s a mutual Meeeup, the users will be connected. What’s more, once a connection is made, members will receive exclusive offers to redeem at the cities top trending hot spots when they meet up.
EVERY company who employs sales people will tell you – the way you get great sales people is to build them. You need a plug and play system that you can put ORDINARY people into and get extraordinary results from them. But that system HAS to include someone who has already done it to manage the whole thing, so you’ve got two choices: Pay a Wage and get someone in who’ll help you OR (and this is definitely what I think!)
