Crockd was created by millennials for millennials, giving them a chance to play with clay in an era where many feel their relationship with technology isn’t making them happy.
Andrew and Rosa-Clare Willis think of pottery as art therapy. They came up with the idea as a way to escape the pressures of everyday life, having one afternoon gone on the hunt for clay to play with and share with their friends rather than spending Christmas getting hammered.
The joy and laughter they witnessed that day, as their friends built something fun, special and memorable in the shared experience of getting their hands dirty, led to the birth of Crockd.
The Willis duo aren’t looking to create Wedgewoods.
“Pottery gives people the opportunity to disconnect from devices and connect with some thing real, something tangible,” they said
“We weren’t looking to become ceramicists. We just wanted to experience the process, to get our hands dirty and our minds clear.”
To share the fun, the pair turned to Amazon Australia to sell the Crockd DIY Pottery Kit for 1-2 people. Each kit contains enough clay for 1-2 people to make a few creations each – think 2 mugs and a small plate with wooden carving tools to shape your pieces and illustrations to help you create your ceramics, as well as instructions on firing and glazing your pottery.
