Another busy week has seen Facebook acquire Masquerade, the startup behind MSQRD, the app behind the faceswapping tool taking over the internet, while Intel has acquired Replay Technologies to help create a new category for sports entertainment. Meanwhile, WeWork has raised $430 million at a valuation of $16 billion to help launch a push into Asia, and closer to home Melbourne’s Culture Amp raised $10 million while Brisbane’s PlantMiner raised $3.5 million.

Canva announces US$15 million Series A round, valuing the company at $165 million

Design platform Canva today announced a USD$15 million Series A round of funding to continue expanding its platform, which is now used by more than five million marketers, designers and small business owners. This latest round of capital brings the total amount raised by the Sydney-based startup to USD$27 million and gives it a valuation of USD$165 million.

Ten months after merging, Australian startups Beat the Q and Posse have announced the closure of an oversubscribed Series A $5 million funding round led by Westpac’s $50 million venture fund Reinventure and 12-year-old venture capital firm Exto Partners. The new investment will be used to fund product development – specifically, to improve the payment process for customers when dining out or buying coffee and to introduce new features – as well as marketing and scaling merchant acquisition.
