Disability tech accelerator Remarkable has backed one of its alumni in a $3.5 million Seed raise for Sociability, which helps people with disability discover accessible spaces.
Remarkable’s investment came through its Scaler co-investment initiative, which backs disability tech startups in Australia, the UK, US, and elsewhere.
The raise for Sociability was led by Britain’s Growth Impact Fund, also supported Innovate UK, the Lightbulb Trust (UK), Australia’s HFM Investments, and Twitter cofounder Biz Stone.
Founded in 2019 by Matt Pierri, who was Remarkable’s entrepreneur-in-residence in Sydney for the 2024 cohort, Sociability has accessibility data for more than 15,000 venues in the UK , with nearly two-thirds of them in Londo.
“I’m passionate about changing perceptions of disability and empowering disabled people to thrive and live their best lives,” Pierri said.
“As a disabled person, there’s often this perception that I wouldn’t want to visit places like bars, pubs and nightclubs—places you go to have fun with friends or family. It’s false stereotypes like this that often lead to both a lack of inclusive design, and poor service for disabled customers. At Sociability, we’re using data to change this on both fronts..”
Remarkable head of investment Zara Fulton said the impact of Sociability’s inclusive approach made life better for all.
“Sociability is making the world more fun for everyone by supporting every person’s right to spontaneity and the joy of exploring new experiences and places,” she said.
“Global trends show that the best-performing cafes, restaurants, and bars will be those celebrated by Sociability—and society—for creating truly inclusive and beautiful spaces.
“At Remarkable, we know that disability inspires the best tech and design, and we understand the tremendous spending power of people with disability and their friends and family, estimated at US$18 trillion annually.”
